Our History

1961

Early Operations

The Department of Works and Supply managed water and sewerage responsibilities across Papua New Guinea.

1982

Waterboard Established

Under the National Water Supply and Sewerage Act of 1982, the National Water Supply and Sewerage Board (Waterboard) was established to oversee water development nationwide.

2010

Rebranded to Water PNG

The Waterboard was rebranded to 'Water PNG' reflecting a modernised identity and commitment to improved service delivery.

2011

30-Year Milestone

Celebrated three decades of service with expansion to 23 service centers, including Yangoru and Kainantu.

2017

Corporatisation

Water PNG underwent corporatisation under the 2016 legislative framework, becoming 'Water PNG Limited' — a state-owned enterprise.
